Russell Leahy, a 28-year-old teacher from Texas, says he lost his entire $32,000 life savings in a highly convincing bank impersonation scam. Fraudsters posing as Chase Bank representatives contacted him via spoofed phone calls, realistic texts, and counterfeit statements, claiming his account had been compromised. They instructed him to transfer funds to a so-called “secure” account—controlled by the scammers—resulting in nearly all his money being stolen.
